Kuti Project: The animals

Thanks to Kuti’s diverse habitats (wetlands, savannah and miombo & brachystegia woodland) we have a fantastic array of wildlife here.

They can be pretty shy but we got conclusive proof that the reserve is full of big mammals this September when we conducted a game count. In total we spotted 52 Zebra, 63 Sable, 16 Warthog, 2 Bush pig, 7 Reedbuck, 1 Serval, 39 Bushbuck, 21 Duiker, 12 Wildebeest, 21 Kudu, 48 Waterbuck, 32 Nyala, 27 Impala and 2 Giraffe.

Local bird experts Ken Longdon and Lizanne Roxburgh spotted 87 species of birds on their last visit (Sept ’12).

Kuti is also an official wildlife release site for Lilongwe Wildlife Centre.
